As we all know, many people don’t wear a helmet when they ride a bike for vanity reasons. I can’t say I blame them, since most bike helmets look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Swedish design students Anna Haupt and Terese Alstinat set out to take this problem head-on, literally: how to create a head-safety device for bicyclists who also value aesthetics. Enter the Hövding.

The device is essentially a zip-up airbag that you wear around your neck, like a balloon hood tucked into a collar, that instantly deploys in the event of an accident. Pretty amazing. Watch the video here:
